Room 13 is the Old Chicago Inn's very own authentic 1920s era speakeasy. Located in the garden level, Room 13 currently opens at 6pm on Friday and Saturday nights. Our resident mixologist, Ted Carlson, serves up classic American cocktails, using recipes and ingredients that hearken from the age of jazz and earlier. While pouring libations made with the finest ingredients, Ted also shares his knowledge of the history of cocktail, often with cultural anecdotes that bring the prohibition era to life. The décor in Room 13 has been carefully selected to reflect the era, from the framed Pabst girls to the Lindberg tapestry you will find interesting treasures to enhance your experience.
Reservations are encouraged and proper dress is required. Your innkeeper will be happy to assist you with your plans. We even have jackets for gentlemen traveling without one.
When booking, our guests may also choose to add a "Speakeasy Flight" to their stay. This package features four samplings of different cocktails, representative of the era, crafted for you while the bartender offers historical description of the drinks as well as insight in to the mixing methods. A tray of nuts, dried apricots and olives is included. Package is $55 for two persons.
